International and local key accounts require dedicated contacts for freight forwarding services in Asian growth markets. In Northeast Asia, a. hartrodt is responding to this need by establishing a Regional Key Account Management (KAM) team for China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Alessandro Anastasio is leading the way, holding the newly created position of Key Account Manager North East Asia since May 1, 2025. "While KAM employees were previously hired directly by our local offices throughout the region, I am the first to be employed by the regional office in Hong Kong," he explains.

After a Master's degree in Genoa to Hong Kong for a. hartrodt

The 29-year-old is excellently qualified for his role. After completing an Erasmus program in Lyon, France, and graduating with a Master's degree in Port Economics and Management from the University of Genoa, he started working for a. hartrodt Italia in his hometown of Genoa in the Pricing & Controlling department. Since June 2022, he has been working for the family business as an expat in Hong Kong, initially in the procurement team and later as an LCL Product Manager.

Customers appreciate standards and speedy communication

As KAM, Alessandro Anastasio ensures "that shipments are handled according to standardized processes throughout our network." At the same time, he must "meet the expectations of each specific customer". While transit time is crucial for food stuffs, low-value cargo is more price-driven. "Standardization and speedy communication are essential for meeting the needs of large customers, while medium-sized customers also appreciate this very much," he says. In addition, according to him, much more information is required today, "which can be gathered through digitization and evaluated using key performance indicators (KPIs)".

According to Alessandro Anastasio, German-based companies are among a. hartrodt's biggest clients in Northeast Asia, "most of them from the automotive industry". He wants to develop new large customers and pave the way for additional regional KAM colleagues who will join in the future.
