After an eight-week internship abroad, four apprentices from a. hartrodt Germany have returned to Hamburg with valuable experience in their luggage. "For me, a big dream came true: to live and work in the USA," says Michelle Bigall after her stay in New York. Azamat Shatts brings back from Malaysia, where he interned with Marit Stuke in Kuala Lumpur, "the open and flexible way of working and the great helpfulness of colleagues". Alexander Albus sums up his time in Sydney (Australia) as "immensely enriching, both personally and professionally". Since 2014, a. hartrodt has facilitated around 50 internships in offices abroad.
Gaining experience exceeds effort
Despite the demanding organization and costs involved, all young professionals recommend an internship abroad "without hesitation". "The effort involved in advance was not as great as I had imagined," says Alexander Albus. Azamat Shatts believes that the commitment required for an international stay is "nothing compared to the experience gained." The internships in Malaysia were supported by the AusbildungWeltweit program.
Teamwork across borders
In Kuala Lumpur, the apprentices got to know various departments. Marit Stuke's highlight was KLIA International Airport: "On site, we got a first-hand impression of the work our colleagues do in goods handling." Alexander Albus found it exciting to "develop and implement a module in the new ERP system entirely on my own" in Sydney. For Michelle Bigall, the opportunity to "work on my own projects and visit warehouses" in New York was "really interesting and educational". In Germany, the apprentices now think more internationally in their everyday work and practice teamwork across borders.
In the future, the young professionals would "definitely" like to work abroad. The internship showed them that international assignments at a. hartrodt not only offer insights into other markets and ways of working, but also contribute to personal development.
