It’s a new day for the Princess of Wales.

In a video message posted on social media, Kate confirmed that she has finished chemotherapy, following the news of her cancer diagnosis in March. “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” she said, adding that she will return to public duties over the next few months.

The video, shot by Will Warr, is an emotional one. It opens with the royal walking through the woods with her husband Prince William and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Then, it cuts to the Princess driving through the country and into the forest alone. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she says in a voiceover. “The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.”

The rest of the footage shows the Waleses enjoying simple outdoor activities, such as playing cards at a picnic, climbing trees, and running through fields. It also shows the young family spending a day at the beach. Kate is dressed simply – first in a light blue dress, then later in a patterned cotton midi.

The film also features touching moments between William and Kate. While the couple has long eschewed PDA, the footage shows them in a deep embrace on a blanket in the woods. Kate rests her head on William’s shoulder at one point, while in another scene, they laugh together while laying in the sand. “This time has, above all, reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved,” she says.

The video features a number of affectionate moments between the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The news comes almost six months after she initially revealed her diagnosis. Since then, she’s largely stayed out of the spotlight, except for a select few appearances, including one at Wimbledon. Now, however, it seems Kate is finally well enough to resume her royal role.
