All Of Elle Fanning’s Best Vintage Looks To Date
Elle Fanning has become known for championing vintage on the red carpet, whether it’s a ’60s champagne-coloured Balmain gown at the Golden Globes or archival Chanel at Cannes Film Festival. Most recently, the actor opted for a draped Alexander McQueen dress from autumn/winter 2008 while attending Cartier’s ball in Vienna, which she – naturally – paired with dazzling diamonds from the French jewellery house.
While vintage has enjoyed a boom on the red carpet of late (in part, due to growing environmental concerns), Fanning has long been ahead of the game when it comes to archival looks. In fact, the actor previously revealed in an interview that she wore a vintage John Galliano dress to her high-school prom, and often sported vintage during the early days of her career.

Many of Fanning’s more recent archival gowns were sourced via Shrimpton Couture’s Cherie Balch, who has worked with the actor’s stylist Samantha McMillen a number of times over the years. “It is a joy to dress Elle and see her embrace vintage in the way that she has,” Balch tells Vogue. “Elle loves vintage pieces that have a touch of Old Hollywood to them but still feel modern. She really brings pieces to life – you can feel the joy that she has for what she does when she wears things.”
