Australia: a. hartrodt opens largest global warehouse in Melbourne

New 11,000-square-meter building offering 8,500 pallet positions plus ambient storage.

At the beginning of July 2025, a. hartrodt officially opened its largest company-owned warehouse in Melbourne, Australia. Spanning 11,000 square meters of storage space and 1,000 square meters of office space, the new facility is situated on a 12,000-square-meter property in Cambellfield – one of the key logistics hubs in the state of Victoria. The site is strategically located just 20 minutes from the airport and 35 minutes from the Port of Melbourne. Its excellent transport links enhance supply chain efficiency across the region. "We are proud to represent the largest operational footprint within our global network," says Frank Talia, General Manager Victoria at a. hartrodt Australia.

Consolidation of two facilities

The new warehouse marks a significant milestone following a. hartrodt’s acquisition of Overseas Transport Systems (OTS) including OTS Australia and OTS Plus in August 2021. The company had been operating two separate facilities in Melbourne totaling 9,000 square meters. "The successful integration of two operations into a unified facility in such a short time is an extraordinary achievement," emphasises Frank Talia.

Temperature-controlled area, hazardous goods, bonded goods

The warehouse offers 8,500 racked pallet positions, 1,500 of which are in a temperature-controlled area. There are also reefer pads to accommodate refrigerated goods. The facility compromises of two separate warehouses, including a main warehouse with 5,500 pallet positions licensed to handle bonded and excise cargo. This enables customers to store imported goods without the immediate payment of customs duties. Additional capabilities include the handling of hazardous cargo, on-site biosecurity and food safety inspections as well as fumigation services, particularly valuable during the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season. The facility also offers (de-)consolidation services for both sea freight groupage containers or airfreight units.

Reflecting on the project, Frank Talia shares his personal highlight: "Seeing this warehouse come to life has been deeply rewarding – a vision realised through the dedication, resilience and collaboration of our incredible team."
